Do hobby landscape photographers have it more difficult than professional photographers?
First blog entry of 2023 and it's already April?
Should I be ashamed or is it a result of everyday life asking too much?
How the year started
What do I want to achieve in 2023, how to start? I would probably have to think big first and then boil it down? I could write that I want to sell photos for 100,000 kr this year, but that's unlikely and 5000 kr would be a start, wouldn't it? But in order to be able to sell photos I need more views on this page and how do you get that? I absolutely have to look into this question, no, not just to sell, but more to share my hobby or, in other words, to show others the beauty of my adopted homeland.
But I think that I have to start somewhere else when it comes to goals. The main goal for 2023 is to have fun with photography, regardless of whether my photo reflects the mainstream on Instagram etc. or is completely different. I want to take my photos, I want to rediscover myself, I want to learn new techniques and refine old ones, I want to develop my own style. Professionally and privately, there are also one or the other project, but I think the most important thing is to find more time for photography. Only those who try and study can progress, right? I am also considering taking part in a workshop if there is time, otherwise one or the other 1to1 with another photographer who can help me further, whether meeting up or online will show.
New project also in 2023?
I participated in projects in 2021 and 2022. For 2023 I found my own little project which ties in with 2022. Whether the presentation and the rules will be the same I don't know yet. However, the subject changes from black and white to intimate landscape photography. Of course I will also take part in our online photo group program as often as possible in 2023. Hopefully another big project or a few smaller ones, we'll see.
I also have a long-term project in the back of my mind. I've hinted at it a few times but haven't defined it exactly. Hadsel has 4 rings in the commune coat of arms. the 4 rings stand for the 4 islands on which Hadsel is spread. I call myself / my page capturehadsel and would like to use our commune as a long-term project, both the larger places as a kind of sub-theme and the different islands as a kind of sub-theme. I currently need a little time for research and brainstorming on how I can do this better.
Our photo group has also started a new project, but more on that later…
Holidays will also be different this year
Holidays will be different in my family this year. I have a new job and that's why I slipped into a new holiday group. This means that I have 2 weeks vacation alone and am considering using the time to explore and photograph a new region. I'm also doing a little research here, where I can drive our caravan as a base camp and explore from there. At first I was thinking of going a little further away, but then I decided not to go that far and will probably go to Andøya. There are a few hikes here that I would like to do and many interesting photo spots.
I'm looking forward to it, even if it's just a little more than 100 km away…
Back to the question at the beginning and the title of the entry
Do amateur landscape photographers have it more difficult than professional photographers?
I think that many have understood that the question is about time. I don't cry when I write that it's difficult in everyday life to take photos and blog. I think that the professionals certainly have a time management system where time is planned for it, like the doctor's rounds at my work or something similar.
My favorite photographers who do my hobby full-time create more and that should probably be due to the time or not?
A short preview of the next entry
This blog entry was written from notes over time. Since there was a lot of overtime at work, shifts in working hours and all sorts of things happened in my private life, I didn't get around to writing an entry.
However, I have contacted Trym Ivar Bergsmo regarding workshop/onetoone and what came out of it will be in the next entry!
I would be very happy about feedback in the comments
